Pair of Engraved Silver Goblets with Tughras Ottoman Turkey circa 1900
height: 14.5cm, combined weight: 288g
This pair of silver goblets is typically late Ottoman in style. The cups, of inverted bell shape form, sit on thin, baluster-form stems which rise from flared, elaborate rococo-form bases with sit on six feet.
The goblets are finely engraved each with two large tughras (calligraphic monograms of the Ottoman sultans) within laurel leaf borders and surrounded by stars and other scrolling foliage. The remainder of the cups is engraved with elaborate rococo-esque foliage scrolls against a finely tooled ground.
The bases are further engraved with rococo-like borders.
The bases and the cups are each stamped with assaying tughras and the bases of each goblet cup has a related silver assay zig-zag testing mark.
