Brass Offering Dish (Katora)
Northern India
late 19th century

height: 16.1 cm

This offering dish, in the form of a taza mounted on the back of a nandi or sacred bull, the mount or vahana of Shiva, would have been used to place offerings
(sweetmeats, flowers and so on) before images of Shiva. Possibly the
nandi had a small tail attached but it is no longer present. The nandi stands on a plate
that can be removed from its platform.
