Gilt Buddha
Burma
18th century

height: 8 cm

This bronze, which has been recovered from a relic chamber of a stupa or larger image, shows the Buddha  seated on a raised platform in vajrasana position.
The right hand is in the gesture of touching the earth (
bhumisparsa-mudra). The left is in the gesture of meditation (dhyana-mudra).

The bronze has been gilded as is typical of Burmese Buddha images that have been recovered from relic chambers.
