Possibly this box was used for lime used in the preparation of the betel quid, or to store a small quantity of tobacco. It is finely repoussed on all sides with
vegetal scrolling typical of Ceylonese silver work.
The base is finely engraved over its entirety with a flower amid scrolling leaves. The lid is attached by means of a hinge.
