Sino-Tibetan or Sino-Mongolian Silver Covered Kalasha Vase
China or Tibet
19th century or earlier

height: 14 cm, weight: 204g

This vase, with a splayed lotus-petal foot and cover, is repoussed and chased with vegetal scrolling and four flower-shaped cartouches that feature the
Chinese characters for longevity, health, luck and prosperity.

The body retains traces of pink enamel. Probably it was made in China for the Tibetan or Mongolian markets. It is relatively heavy for its size.

The
kalasha was used to hold sacred water.
