Repoussed Silver Hairpin

A 19th century hairpin worn by women in the Manchu
court.  Strands of hair were wrapped around such
hairpins to give width to their hairdos.

Of finely repoussed and chased silver with three near-
identical roundels of peony blossoms against a tooled
background within a rope-twist border.

A shop mark in Chinese – ‘Dong Sheng’ or ‘East Rise’ is
stamped twice to the reverse.
