Rare French Glass Perfume Bottle
by Coty, with Cambodian Silver Mounts
circa 1920

height: 16.2cm

This very unusual glass perfume bottle with ‘Coty’ and ‘France’ cast into the base has been beautifully sheafed in Cambodian open-cut silver work in the style
of scrolling flowers and foliage. The work is the same in form and style as employed in the manufacture of certain types of silver Cambodian betel boxes.

The lid, with a Bakelite and cork interior is also tightly sheafed in chased silver.

Possibly this is the work of an expatriate Cambodian silversmith in Paris (what is now Cambodia being a then colony of France), probably in the 1940s or
earlier, in the manner that Indian silversmiths were employed in Scotland and England in the late nineteenth century.
