Torajan War Jacket

This war jacket, from the Torajan people of central Sulawesi, comprises a woven cane superstructure onto which numerous buffalo bone plaque shingles have
been attached. The jacket has been further embellished with horn discs to the back and front, and horn buttons. The jacket is kept closed by winding burlap
string cords that end in two animal teeth toggles around the buttons.
War jackets of bone or thick bamboo were used in other parts of Indonesian archipelago too such as Nias. This example, is in excellent, complete condition.
