Large Open-Work Chased Copper Tray
Kashmir, 19th century
diameter: 50cm
This large, circular copper tray has been hammered, chased and then hundreds of small holes have been carefully
cut out from it to complete the intricate design. The design, very much in accordance with the northern Indian Islamic
aesthetic, is of bands of scrolling foliage in the 'rosette' pattern sometimes seen in Kashmiri silver and other metal
work.
This tray is remarkable for the degree of openwork and the fineness in the execution of that work.
