Three Straits Chinese Dinner Plates
China but to Straits Chinese Tastes
late 19th - early 20th century

diameter: 19.8cm

Each of these three famille rose plates is finely
enamelled with a pheonix perched on ornamental
rockwork beside pink and blue peonies, framed by a
border of lotus and Buddhistic emblems and a
scalloped, gilded rim. The reverse of each is decorated
with detached floral sprigs.

This trio most probably belonged to a set of porcelain
commission from China by a wealthy Malacca or
Singapore
baba family for an elaborate wedding.

Each has a Kuang-hsu or Guangxu (1875-1908) reign
mark to the base.
