Two Silver Amulet Plaques
Rajasthan, India
late 19th - early 20th century
length: 6cm (bigger one), 3.6cm (smaller one)
Amulet plaques such as these two examples are designed to be worn on a necklace. Both are of flat heavy-guage die-stamped silver with silver floral applique work and
show Ganesh side-by-side with Lakshmi. The larger plaque has some ritual rubbing wear.
Both are rectangular in shape, which symbolically represents a house or an enclosure. The larger example features a walled-in rectangle which represents family unity.
