Two Ritual Silver Cups

These two silver cups have six-sided bases that rise to a circular rim. Each has a handle that is
soldered on, is engraved with a band of repeated stylised floral motifs and doubled beaded
bands at the rim and base. Overall, these cups have a pleasing, soft patina.

Known as
awarint kupanaka, such cups are used in the Andes by Quechua, Chipaya and
Aymara Indians to offer blessings of cane alcohol during rituals.
