Silver & Copper Inlaid Brass Spittoon
Egypt or Syria
circa 1910
height: 16cm, diameter of mouth: 12.5cm, weight: 442g
Copper and silver-inlaid brass items of this type, usually referred to as Cairoware, are not uncommon, but it is unusual to find a spittoon made using this
method. Either from Syria or Egypt it is inlaid using silver and copper to form Arabic words and endless knot emblems within cartouches. The spittoon sits on a
flared foot that is also inlaid, and has a wide, open mouth with a raised lip.
