Malay Silver Bowl with Cover (Batil Ber Totop)

This bowl, of hammered, based silver alloy, is of a type that seems to have been manufactured in Riau (near Singapore) and exported to the rest of the Malay
world.
Of spherical form, in two halves, it sits on a slightly splayed plain foot. The rest of the bowl and cover is decorated in typically Malay form with scrolling foliage
borders, and radiating petal motifs. The cover has a central roundel in which a kris (traditional Malay sword with a wavy blade) is crossed with its scabbard.
This motif is repeated to the underside of the base.
The bowl and cover are in fine condition with no cracks or holes. The cover fits very tightly to the base.
