Qibla
Compass & Sun Dial

This compass was used by the faithful to locate
qibla, of the direction of Mecca for sholat (prayers). It has a magnetised needle, protected under glass, and an additional flip-up appendage to be used as a sun dial. The casing appears to have been gilded and is engraved to the inside, the base and the exterior top cover with the names of various Islamic cities and possibly the zodiac.
