Colonial Burmese Silver Frame
Silver Photograph Frame
Burma
circa 1920
height: 25cm, width: 15cm
This fine, high-grade solid silver photograph frame comprises a wide border of leafy scrolls interspersed with figures in Burmese dress, nagas, an ogre-figure on horseback, a pair of doves (or possibly crows) and a small lion figure, all in repoussed, chased and open-work silver.
The actual photograph space is oval in shape, and is fitted with oval glass, and appropriate backing.
The frame can stand freely and has a hinged stand to allow this. It can also be hung on a wall – a small silver loop at the top of the frame on the reverse allows for this.
Burmese silver photograph frames are not often encountered, and this example shows a high degree of sophisticated silver-smithing technique.
