Mughal Push Dagger (Khatar) with a Gold Koftgari-work Hilt

length: 43.5 cm; width across handles: 8.5 cm

This khatar with its long, ridged, tapering steel blade was designed for piercing chain mail. The handles are finely decorated with delicate scrolling vines and flowers, all in gold inlay. The arms of the hilt have identical patterns on the outer and inner surfaces. The khatar is in excellent condition with little loss to the gold inlay.
