Sewar Dagger with Horn & Silver Mounts

This fine sewar dagger has a chape, upper scabbard and hilt ring all encased in sheet silver that is engraved with scrolling plant and geometric motifs.

The silver mounts cover most of the scabbard with only the middle section left unadorned and exposing the wood beneath.

The hand guard and hilt are of fine horn, the hand guard being carved and pieced with foliage motifs.

Sewars were intended as stabbing weapons. Accordingly, the knife here is long, thin and single-edged – ideal for stabbing.

This example is in fine condition. There are no losses or repairs. It has a fine patina.
