Large, Splendid Silver Anklet (Milna Payal)

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India
19th century

approximate diameter: 13cm, weight: 467g

Formerly in the collection of the late Paul Walter; most probably acquired by Walter in London.

This dramatic, museum-quality anklet is made of a series of solid silver interlocking units joined to a twelve-sided cube which contains the opening screw mechanism. The cube has been beautifully engraved with floral motifs and has prominent bud-like finials.
