SOLD

Elaborate Silver Water Sprinkler

India

mid-19th century

height: 31cm

This sprinkler of repoussed, hammered sheet silver stands on a curved repoussed foot and has a fluted body that alternates between plain flutes and those decorated with floral and foliage motifs. The stem is in the form of two entwined elephant trunks rising to a large pierced head in the form of a flower bunch.

The work is Indian but shows clear Turkish or Ottoman influence.

The sprinkler is striking not only for its elaborate style but also its relatively large size.
