Gold Necklace

South India

19th century

opened full

length: approx. 42cm, weight: 30g

This fine, striking necklace of gold spheres and engraved gold plaques attached to a black cord is from South India. The spheres are filled with resin.

The gold latch is possibly later – perhaps dating to the end of the 19th century – in order to make the necklace more wearable in a modern setting.
