Indian Gold & Ruby Necklace

SOLD

Ruby & Gold Pendant & Necklace

India

19th century

length: 37cm

This fine necklace comprises two rows of well-matched spherical rubies, and a flexible pendant of high-grade gold segments arrayed in a ladder style and with foliate finials at either end. Three tassels of rubies are suspended from the pendant.

The style of the pendant is unusual but not unlike the long, elaborate gold South Indian hair ornaments known as

jadai nagam, in terms of construction, although on a much more reduced scale.
