Indian Hindu Bronzes
Seven Small Hindu Bronze Images
India
16th-18th centuries
heights: 5cm-6cm
Each of the bronzes in this collection of seven is very small, but each is well-cast and well defined. Each also shows considerable puja wear attesting to their age and ritual use.
Each bronze would have been used on a household altar and each morning, the principal woman of the house would have bathed the bronzes and made offerings to them.
The bronzes are:
(1) Shiva and Parvati
(2) Annapurna
(3) Krishna
(4) Vishnu reclining on the serpent Shesha (with Lakshmi, Bhudevi and Garuda in the foreground)
(5) Ganesh
(6) Vishnu
(7) Sridevi
