Indian Kutch Colonial Silver Goblet
Chased Silver Goblet
Kutch, India
circa 1880
height: 15.6cm, diameter: 8.8cm, weight: 236g
This fine, tall goblet is of solid silver. The cup and domed foot are densely chased with scrolling flowers and foliage in a style that is typical of late 19th century Kutch silverwork for the colonial market. A lion and an antelope are portrayed on the cup surrounded by foliage with the former chasing the latter.
The chasing work is fine, the proportions of the goblet with its plain, narrow stem are elegant, and the detail is relatively crisp and not excessively worn by polishing. There are no splits, dents or repairs.
