This cylindrical container is carved in deep relief in two continuous panels with typically Chinese pavilion and willow scenes. The base is carved with peonies. It was made for the European export market and was intended to shake dice in card and board games. The interior has ridges to the top which were designed to slow down the passage of the dice as they fall out onto the table.
The carving is such that the ivory in translucent when held up to the light.
The container is in fine condition and free of any losses.
