This bronze amulet has been cast with a figure of the deity Hanuman, in high relief. He is shown holding his club (gada) in his right hand, and a mountain of healing herbs (sanjivanibuti giri) in his left hand.
The plaque is surrounded by eight loops or eyelets to allow it to be attached to threads that would so that it could be tied to the upper arm of a Shaivite priest or ascetic.
According to Hindu religious shastras, Shiva reincarnated his eleventh form of Rudra a a human but with a monkey head and tail to assist Rama in his fight aganait Ravana and the demon king Lanka. Traditionally, Hanuman is said to have been born in the forest in Karnataka.
