Fine Silver Amulet Box with Filigree
Yemen
late 19th/early 20th century

length: 16 cm; diameter of box: 4.5 cm

This exceptionally fine cylindrical amulet box with fine, fully intact silver filigree work is of heavy-guage, high-grade
hammered sheet silver. It is surmounted by four eyelets to allow suspension from a cord or chain worn around the
neck.  The eyelets have obvious wear consistent with age and use.

One end slides off to reveal the interior of the cannister in which protective Koranic verses and other amulets
would have been kept.

Overall, this is a lovely piece with excellent patina. There are no losses or restorations.
