Burmese Silver Box

SOLD

Repoussed Silver Lidded Box

Burma

circa 1890

width: 8.8cm, height: 7.8cm, weight: 175g

This fine, small octagonal silver box might have been used in conjunction with betel nut or it might simply be a box to hold nothing specific. It is repoussed and chased in high relief on all sides, and on the lid, which shows three Burmese figures in traditional attire.

The base is plain. The lid fits tightly and is air tight.

There are no dents, splits or restoration. Overall, it is a pleasing example of late 19th century Burmese colonial silver-smithing.
