This large hairpin of high-grade silver sheet comprises a hollow post and a large convex, bow-shaped head. The head also is hollow but fully enclosed. The outer surface is repoussed with phoenixes, a traditional Chinese emblem that signifies marital happiness.

The hairpin is in fine condition but with obvious age.

It is from the southern Chinese minority groups such as the Yao or Mien of southern China and Northern Vietnam, and the Golden Triangle region which includes Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
