Silver Rosewater Sprinkler

This small but elegantly proportioned silver sprinkler has a gently-lobed spherical base, a wide foot, a flat-sided stem and a tiered nozzle. The spherical body has a central key-fret band and floral and foliage motifs engraved above and below.

Sprinklers were offered in Islamic homes to guests as they arrived so they could apply perfumed water to their hands to allow them to freshen after their journey. They were also used in wedding and other ceremonies.
