    Provenance

    private collection, London, UK.

    This oil on canvas work is by the Burmese artist Min Kyi (1940-2008).  Highly Impressionist, it shows a lane with several traditional Burmese carts disappearing into the distance. Alongside the carts walk several people in traditional Burmese dress.

    The painting is signed ‘Min Kyi’ in the lower right.

    The reverse of the frame is affixed with a page from a catalogue from an exhibition ‘Contemporary Burmese Art Exhibition’ from which this painting no doubt was bought. The exhibition was held at Bogyoke Market (formerly known as Scott Market) in central Rangoon and held in June 1978. The page identifies the artist Min Kyi and suggests that the exhibition name for this painting was ‘A Lane’.

    Min Kyi was born on 4 November 1940 in Kayin Hla Village near Hinthada Town. His paintings have been exhibited internationally, most particularly in Singapore.

    The painting is in fine condition.
