    Provenance

    Private collection, London, UK.

This elegant watercolour of an elderly Burmese woman has been sensitively rendered by the Burmese artist Tinh Zawe Win who was active in Rangoon in the 1990s.

It is signed ‘Tinh Zawe Win’ in the lower left corner and dated ‘1998’.

The subject is smoking a thick cheroot of locally grown tobacco leaf. Her wrinkled face with its bright but weary eyes is bordered by a pink textile wrapped around her head and her white upper garment.

The painting was acquired in the late 1990s in Rangoon.

It is a beautiful study, in excellent condition.
