Burmese Watercolour ‘The Shwedagon Pagoda at Night’
Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar) circa 1995
dimensions of visible painting: 44 and 59cm, dimensions of frame: 63 and 78cm
Provenance
pricate collection, London, UK.
This striking, large watervolour shows Rangoon’s Shwedagon Pagoda at night. The gold of the extraordinary stupa contrasts brilliantly with the night sky. A further, clever contrast is with the fluorescent lighting that illuminates the interiors of the ancillary buildings before the stupa. Rendering the glow of fluorescent lighting in watercolour is quite a feat.
The painting is signed ‘BA’ in the lower right hand corner.
The painting was acquired by the previous owner in Rangoon in the late 1990s. It is in excellent condition.
