    Provenance

    private collection, London.

    This beautiful 14th century miniature bronze shows the deity Shiva and his consort Parvati seated over Nandi, Shiva’s bull vahana or cosmic vehicle, the head of which juts out on the right of the bronze.

    Shiva has his arm around Parvati who appears to be holding a lotus in her left hand.

    The group is on a low platform that has low feet that are now mostly worn away.

    An arched aureole rises above the group.

    The bronze is only small but has the most wonderful ritual wear and dark patina. It stands unaided.
