19th century

length: 30cm, weight: 158g

UK art market

This relatively unusual klewang or machete-like knife has an iron elongated-triangular blade and a hilt or handle that is encased in repoussed and chased sheet silver.

The top of the blade is also encased with a narrow decorated silver sheet and then further inset with small segments of silver (minor losses).

A related example is illustrated in van Zonneveld (2001, p. 70).

The example here is in fine condition.
